Rana Alsoufi appointed to the German Ethics Council
Prof. Dr. Rana Alsoufi
Alsoufi was nominated by the Federal Government to succeed Muna Tatari, who stepped down from the Council in March 2025.
Rana Alsoufi is Professor of Islamic Normative Studies and Ethics at the Institute for the Study of Islamic Culture and Religion at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. She studied Islamic law in Jordan and obtained her doctoral degree in Islamic theology at the University of Edinburgh. Rana Alsoufi’s research focuses on Islamic law and ethics.
In addition to her work on the German Ethics Council, Rana Alsoufi is a member of the German Society for Islamic-Theological Studies and sits on the Advisory Board of the European Society of Women in Theological Studies. Furthermore, she is involved in the Ethics Network Christianity and Islam.
