Meet the German Ethics Council! Adolescents report on their lives during the pandemic

Children and adolescents have a much lower risk of experiencing a severe course of COVID-19 than older people or people with pre-existing medical conditions; they are, however, being strongly impacted from restrictions on education and on social life. Yet precisely such restrictions were imposed on them repeatedly during the Corona crisis.

The Ethics Council now wants to learn directly from pupils how they experienced the pandemic, what they think should have been done differently, what gave them strength, and what their hopes are for the near future.

More than 350 pupils from all over Germany, but mainly from Berlin and Brandenburg, will meet members of the German Ethics Council. Six of the 16 courses and classes attending the conference will present original contributions on the topic ranging from poetry slams to short films and memes. In addition, posters designed by the young people will be presented on site.

The conference, which is already fully booked, will be livestreamed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3:45 to 5 p.m. at https://www.ethikrat.org/live. After the event, a video recording will be available on the website of the German Ethics Council. A translation into sign language is also offered. During the event, the audience in the livestream can submit questions via an online question module. Registration for participation via livestream is not required.

More information, including about the programme, can be found (in German) at https://www.ethikrat.org/weitere-veranstaltungen/triff-den-ethikrat-unser-leben-in-der-pandemie. Recordings and further documentation will also be available here after the conference.
