On Wednesday 23 June, the German Ethics Council holds its 2021 annual meeting. Members of the public are invited to follow the event via livestream. In addition, there are opportunities for active participation.

In a public hearing on 27 May 2021, the German Ethics Council and experts from Canada, the United Kingdom and Norway discuss international perspectives on pandemic preparedness and response in a broader context that goes beyond the current Covid-19 crisis.

This year’s National Prize of the Deutsche Nationalstiftung is awarded to the Chair of the German Ethics Council, Alena Buyx. The Deutsche Nationalstiftung made the announcement on Thursday this week.

During a public online event on 24 March 2021, the German Ethics Council debated with invited experts on the prioritisation of life-sustaining medical treatment resources in the Covid-19 pandemic. The focus was particularly on the fundamental ethical and legal conflicts that arise in triage situations.

The German Ethics Council is currently preparing an Opinion on the ethical questions regarding the relationship between humans and machines. In this context, it will question four experts on current developments in the field of artificial intelligence and human-machine interfaces at a Public Hearing on Thursday, 25 February 2021.

Professor Dr. rer. nat. Armin Grunwald is a new member of the German Ethics Council.
