What is new about One Health? A question that the German Ethics Council asks at its annual meeting on 21 June 2023 in Berlin. Titled “One Health: Health for All and Everything?”, the conference at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities takes a closer look at an understanding of health that focuses on the global interconnections of humans, animals and the environment. The conference also highlights the difficult implementation of One Health in research, ethics and policy.

In its second public hearing on climate justice on 25 May, the German Ethics Council will question various stakeholders who are particularly affected by the consequences of climate change. It will also look at peculiarities of the public debate on the topic.

On 22 March 2023, the German Ethics Council convenes a public evening event as part of the Bioethics Forum series on the topic of “Patient-Oriented Data Use”. The event aims to facilitate a constructive dialogue on how health data can be made more easily usable for healthcare, personalisation of treatments, and research, while respecting data privacy.

On 20 March 2023, the German Ethics Council releases its Opinion “Humans and Machines – Challenges of Artificial Intelligence,” offering a broad analysis of the implications of digital technology for human self-conception and interactions.

At a public hearing in Berlin on 23 February 2023, the German Ethics Council will question experts from philosophy and the social and economic sciences on issues of climate justice and climate ethics.

On 28 November 2022, the German Ethics Council publishes its Ad Hoc Recommendation “Pandemic and Mental Health. Attention, Assistance and Support for Children, Adolescents and Young Adults in and after Societal Crises”. In this publication, the Ethics Council recommends rapidly and sustainably improving the care for young people who develop mental health problems in crisis situations.
