Berlin Social Science Center

“Ethical issues are questions that concern, affect and characterise the whole of society and each and every one of us. The Ethics Council addresses these questions. It is not a matter of right or wrong, yes or no. It is about collating data and arguments from many different disciplines, evaluating them and making well-founded recommendations. That really appeals to me. At the same time, I see our work as a foundation on which citizens can engage, to expand and sharpen our knowledge. This collaboration is particularly valuable to me.”

Focus of the commitment in the German Ethics Council

  • Social consequences of demographic change (declining birth rate, reproductive medicine, longer life expectancy)
  • Social inheritance of educational and training opportunities
  • Causes and consequences of social inequality
