Christian Thiel/Deutscher Ethikrat
“As the first computer scientist and engineer to be appointed to the German Ethics Council, I see myself as bearing a particular responsibility. Rapid innovations in artificial intelligence tend to make us react to technological developments rather than proactively shaping them. My goal is to use my technical expertise to ensure that ethical issues are taken into account with technical foresight from the outset when developing new technological possibilities. I therefore want to build bridges in the Ethics Council – between technological progress and ethical reflection, between innovation and social responsibility.”
